BYS Review: Naked Rose lipstick

Looking for a daily wear lipstick, when I found Naked Rose on Fashion Addict I thought I would try it out. Now this is what I expected, and this is the image of Naked Rose that they have on their site:

BYS Review: Perfectly Peachy blush

Now BYS can hardly be perfect and I have come to realize they may not be that on top of their colors as they ought to be considering how extreme they can go with neons and the like. So looking at this blush I am thinking how they came to the conclusion that it is "peachy" and why they decided to name it as "Perfectly" Peachy. To me this is a brown, hardly a peach.

BYS Review: Animal Instincts palette

Animals? Check. Purples? Check. Affordable? Check. What more can I say? The BYS Animals Instincts palette in purples had me ga-ga. I first saw this palette on Yumeko's blog and have kept it in mind whenever I encountered BYS products and I was in luck and found this beauty on Fashion Addict!

BYS Review: Diamond Shadow palette and LOTD

I was really excited when I got a worthwhile palette from BYS previously so I decided to risk it and try another palette to see if I could possibly strike out again and get something I could use without cringing over how much I spent on it.

Having tried BYS ages back and being thoroughly dissatisfied with the pitiful quality of products that although very cheap should at least be usable, I gave up on them and only used nail polishes. However I think my perspective on BYS has changed and now I am more willing to give them a fair chance, especially since I believe they are worthwhile daily products to invest on. Well, the products I have purchased thus far seem worthwhile.

BYS Order: Overall and Fashion Addict

Tired of only hearing about sites that are based in America or some other place that is not Australia (which is where I currently reside) I did a bit of hunting and found Fashion Addict. I decided to take the chance and placed an order with them and I was impressed, not only with what they offer (which caters to my needs but may not to more hardcore make up enthusiasts) but with their prices (both product and shipping) and most of all, bliss, how soon your order arrives (if you are in Australia, of course). They say it takes 2 business days and it does.

Suki's lacking make up collection and storage

I have never really been into make up. Let me just make that clear. I have never had the need to wear foundation, concealer, and all the rest of your standard base make up. This is not me boasting but more or less saying that is how little I care for the art of make up. I stick to things like eye shadows and lipsticks, the bare basics and more or less if you use canvas and paints as an analogy, I use only the paints without the canvas. Which does not make sense actually considering my face is the canvas but hopefully you get what I mean.

He teaches me about love and how to love every single day

Modeling Life: Professional dignity

Recently on Facebook a photographer I worked with last year posted up an album of photos from the shoot we did. Ordinarily I have taken little notice of the impact this has on both the photographer and model but in this instance the response to this album was so massive that it pretty much took me by surprise.

Happy Valentines Day, but don't be so giddy today

(Photo from HERE)

What is it about Valentines Day that has everyone excited or depressed? I personally do not want to celebrate this day, sure it is a nice day to spend with girlfriends and then your loved one but throughout the years I have steadily had to deal with more bitter girlfriends as they either moan about their boyfriends not doing anything special for them or cry over how they have no one special in their lives. Currently the friends I have are so anti-Valentines Day that they do not even want to do something just as a group of friends! This is why I have become bitter about it: why has this day made so many people have such negative feelings?

No one should be pressured into doing something special today, it is just a silly day and should be taken that way. It is not a couples anniversary, so why are girlfriends abusing their boyfriends for forgetting Valentines Day? It is not a day that singles should be crying over, they should be out there just loving and appreciating family or their best friend knowing that someone special will come along eventually.

I personally have ruled out celebrating it with Scott: I want to be able to bake him heart shaped cookies any day of the year and spoil him to show how much I love him without needing to do it on February 14th. Most of all, I do not want our relationship to be judged based on what he does for me on the day or what I do for him.

Enough ranting. I wish you all a Happy Valentines Day but do not take it so seriously! The V-Days where I have been single I always exchanged gifts with my parents and to this day they still are my Valentines.

Modeling Life: Getting into the life of a promo girl

Everyone thinks it must be glamorous and certainly you need to have certain qualities in order to be a promo model however there is no glamor to the industry. There are definitely perks of being a model - no matter which arena you dominate, photographic, promotional or commercial (if you are curious, I do all three) - but unless you are a supermodel and able to be a diva because your reputation allows for it you are one in a million in an industry that does not care.

LOTD: The good days where we do not need much

This is not exactly my current look of the day as I did this a while back (if you are really acute, you will notice these photos were taken in the temporary room I was in prior to moving into my permanent room - and if you were with me last year, you will recognize it as the same room.) but I do this look frequently as it involves two of my favorite daily colors: Darling Girl Snuggle and Fyrinnae Okapi.

This photo makes me realize just how much I need to get my bangs trimmed...

I am so on a neutrals kick it is insane, I never even liked neutral looks to begin with: if going for a neutral no make up sort of feel then why bother with make up to begin with? Hence why I feel the black eyeliner gives my neutral look a good edge.

Shiro Cosmetics: Order and LOTD

So after hearing about Shiro Cosmetics from every single person out there and listening to the ranting and raving of how great the products are...well obviously I had to get on the bandwagon and get some samples of my own to rant about.

Suki's Modeling Tip #1: Being a self-reliant model

I am by no means a super model but I can say that I have had enough experience (four years worth) to be able to give a few nuggets of advice that I have come to treasure and live by. Some are tips I have learned from the masters (America's Next Top model counts, right?) but most is what I have learned before/on/during/after the job.

BYS Metallics Palette in Browns review

While doing an essentials shop in The Reject Shop (hey, I like buying reject tissue boxes!) I came across a BYS palette that was pretty much sold out (I bought the second last palette). Seeing as I cannot afford to splurge on the Urban Decay Naked palette or any other high end brand which does neutrals just to use daily I thought I would give the BYS Metallics palette a go.

Imagine my excitement when I returned home and swatched it!

Face Candy Couture: Review and LOTD

When I received my free samples from Face Candy Couture I was dying of curiosity! The samples came in unique teeny-weeny baggies and the colors were outstanding! I am stingily keeping my samples and will not swatch them as I want to use them for special looks. When I am a little richer (come on lottery and money tree growing in the garden!) I plan on investing on some full sizes of these babies.

Book Rave: The Forbidden Game

I have been an avid reader from before I even learned the alphabet, no I am not exaggerating: I pored over a picture book with simple sentences long before I could even read the words but perhaps my baby-brain was capable of understanding because Mummy says I actually read the book, not just looked at the pictures and flipped pages. So I am a certified bookworm from the time I was born and with parents who are bookworms themselves what do you expect?

LOTD: Psyche Minerals - Finally!

I finally got around to cleaning up my Psyche Minerals samples and did a look! This is a quickie but I used Durran and Orion Slave - the latter is such a beautiful color, gah! I love it! And of course Durran is a beautiful purple I can see myself using daily.

Suki Asks: What is your take on interracial relationships?

When I read this article on Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry's current feud over their daughter and how Berry claims Aubry made racial comments towards her (Berry, not their daughter) I had to think about how interracial relationships work.

Being with Scott who is Caucasian while I am Asian is definitely something I tend to be aware of all the time, the differences between us are too obvious to not notice. However, that said, we may have significant differences but somehow we are so very compatible that these differences do not matter.

ORLY: Mani Mini Treatment Trio Review

A while ago during the holidays I took part in ORLY Australia's tweet contest in which you had to tweet something witty using ORLY polish names and you stood a chance to win their Precious Collection Spring 2011 and preview it before the masses. You can check out winner Stacey's sneak preview here.

So if I failed to win why am I blogging about it?

LOTD: Intimate Adventures of a Call Girl

When a lovely girl by the name of Magenta gave me 'The Secret Diary of a Call Girl' series, I went out and bought the book to see which I preferred - book or television series. This is a usual habit of mine. I am still reading the book (surprisingly; I usually finish books within a day but have little time for books these days sadly) and so far I feel perhaps the television adaptation is more fun whereas the novel (by Belle de Jour) is more "snippty-snip" and has too many shortened forms as characters that it is hard to follow. Perhaps that conveys the life of a call girl come to think about it but at the same time I have little patience for books that fail to captivate me. And this is about sex too, how shocking that it is dull! But enough about that, I will do a more detailed review later perhaps...

Losing Jackson

Life recently has been stressful but my biggest stress was when our hermit crab Jackson fell ill and did not seem to be anywhere near recovering. After separating him from his brother, Trent, he climbed out of his shell and within a day he had passed away. This devastated me beyond all else, the fact that my baby (for I loved him a little more than Trent who is more of a wild child) was ill and I could not do anything for him. He passed away last Saturday and the tank is hardly the same without him now that Trent ambles in it all by himself.

Hermit crabs may not be for everyone but these critters are certainly loving enough and Jackson's loss has a big impact on my life. I will miss him for the little quirks he had and the way he loved me even on the worst of days.
