Revlon Lip Butters

I originally didn't want to do a post on the Revlon Lip Butters but after seeing so many posts on them ranting and raving about how awesome they are I thought I'd add in my two cents because mine tend to always be on the rusty, dirty side. That is, I don't really think they deserve all the ranting and raving.

Firstly, in Australia these are marked up drastically. They cost us over AUD$21 which is ridiculous for the amount of product you get and for the type of product it is. The packaging doesn't even justify the price - it is impossible to open (seriously, doesn't anyone else wrestle with these?) at times and although "cute" because they reflect the color they house, not hardy or solid enough.

To further nitpick? I dislike the fact that the labels are totally not centered. They are at least in the same position on both tubes but come on, why not center the damn things? Not hard and it looks MUCH better.

Anyway, the colors I got were 001 Pink Truffle and 020 Brown Sugar. Another thing about these: where was the consideration for darker toned girls? Admittedly when I got these the selection was limited and the entire collection wasn't on offer but I still felt so frustrated trying to find at least one color that I actually wanted. I settled with these two (two, because there was a buy one get one free offer otherwise I would've only gotten Pink Truffle and nothing else) after swatching like a mad person. I didn't want to be left out of the Lip Butter craze but now when I look back I think it was something I should've skipped out off entirely.

Pink Truffle is...pink, a rich creamy almost dark pink. Brown Sugar is an almost metallic light brown that shouldn't be a Lip Butter because it's not at all creamy and not really that great of a color.

Before I get into the colors - this is the result of keeping a Lip Butter in your bag for frequent use. Lets get one thing straight: I HATE DIRTY LIPSTICKS/LIPGLOSSES/ANYTHING! That is to say, I really hate it when people just jam shut their lipsticks without closing them properly or when people open up their lipsticks to reveal this smashed up, gooey mess - how can you be so dirty and careless with your products?! I get it if you're the regular person who couldn't care less but I've seen "beauty people" do this too, yuck! So keeping in mind how offended I am by this, refer to picture above and know that this wasn't my doing. In fact, it's how the lip butters are made, even when you twist them all the way down, somehow they rub against the case. And I'm guessing this had melted a little in my bag which lives up to its name but also ensured I never carry it around anymore. It in fact now lives in the bottom of my lipstick collection.

Moving on, as you can see I have used Pink Truffle a lot but as for Brown Sugar, I've only used it once or twice (by the way, they are so soft that while trying to take this photo I accidentally dropped Brown Sugar hence why it has a big dent in it. Which I left to exhibit how soft they are regardless of being in a bag or not) but you can see how little product you get. Which is why paying so much for these is totally not worth it.

This is Pink Truffle. The one good thing in this entire post is how lovely the color is on me and how good the pigmentation is - it covers the brown pigmented part of my upper lip quite well. Not perfectly but good enough that I can get away with wearing a pink shade for once. Definitely very creamy and moisturizing which is nice but unfortunately doesn't survive one coffee.

As for Brown Sugar...I hate the formula. Don't like the color. The end.

As much as I wanted to love these, get more of them, rant and rave about them I really can't and hope that this gives those of you interested a more honest view of them because I sure as heck haven't heard anything negative about them yet and think that it can't just be me who is having such a bad experience with these Lip Butters.

i agree, they were 'ok' but i didn't think they lived up to the hype, i can think of a handful of better lipsticks.

Great post, love the honesty. I like the formula of the ones I have (Candy Apple, Sweet Tart, Cupcake), barring Creamsicle which is kinda gritty, and the colours works well on me, but I'm super pale so pinks and pale shades are kinda my thing.
The price especially sticks in my craw though. I don't intend to buy any more post The Great Priceline 2 for 1 of '12.
